For the visual control freak

What is GraphJam?

It is exactly that: pop culture for people in cubicles. It is for the complete graph-adorer– Legit graphs, i.e.:

Talk about infographics, that was all I needed to know.

Don’t let speeding tickets slow you down…

Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 30, 2008 – 12:33 pm -

I’d like to categorize Trapster.com under one of the most useful sites EVER.

When it comes to driving, I used to be a speedaholic. This coincided with another talent I had: being a cute teenage girl. Once I hit the 20s though, cops started getting less sympathetic and more into ticket-distributing. I had to quit speeding.

And that hurts.

Trapster creates a user community submitting locations of speed traps all over the country using Google maps via the ‘net or the mobile. Once a user submits a speed trap by phone, Trapster will notify you if you are nearing that speed trap on your OWN phone.

Additionally, if some prankster logs in and keeps making up speed traps, her/his credibility will drop, and her/his reports won’t be sent out any longer (hopefully that won’t end up a boy-who-cried-wolf sitch).

I can speed again with confidence. And it’s not annoying to actually be part of this community. Two pluses.

Cheer up, emo chicos

Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 28, 2008 – 9:51 am -

Man this is awesome. Wired blog reported today that anti-emo riots are breaking out across Mexico City. Flocks of swoop-haired skinny-jeaned emo kids are marching. This is not a joke; I repeat: THIS IS NOT A JOKE.

Life hints by Jott

Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 28, 2008 – 9:42 am -

Jott is the ultimate post-it note of life.

One can:

  • Send emails to self.
  • Send emails and texts to contacts.
  • Get text and email reminders to self.
  • Email and text contacts.
  • Add items to a to-do list.

Basically it won’t let you forget anything, or anyone else for that matter. It’s almost like a 24-hour wake-up call from the phone.

Technology just won’t let you have excuses anymore…

Has Photoshop been on your wishlist?

Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 27, 2008 – 9:55 am -

Don’t worry. Shelling out hundreds of quid for the program everyone has and everyone wants is over. That’s because Adobe released Photoshop…online.

Although Adobe Photoshop Express is only in its beta mode, that won’t keep me or probably any technologically savvy human being from getting a little excited. Because everyone knows when Adobe makes a move, it starts a trend.

A trend of having the best software be open and free?

Digital paradise.

Extreme cuisine

Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 26, 2008 – 12:14 pm -

I thought I would try any kind of food until I found out about edible.com, where a menu of chocolate covered giant ants, giant hornet’s honey, Thai curry crickets, and stir-friable scorpions appear on the order menu.

Giant Hornet’s Honey.

Scorpions. The site recommends eating with chili dip.

The site itself is interesting to view just for the sake of its own existence… but if you are interested… you can go order those worm crisps and get them shipped in about a week.

Books on tape…then CD…then online? It was coming.

Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 25, 2008 – 6:28 pm -

Ever wonder what the droids who circulate campus with built in brain-iPods (you) will look like when they grow up? The same, except no drowned-out indie music–just books-on-pod. We will be the cutest senior citizen generation to date.

Podiobooks is a web community where podcast authors submit “chapters” to podcast-novels, completing full audio books. The novels’ content stretch across 18 different genres (and yes, there is an erotica section, for the curiously perverse).

Take your relationship with your iPod to the next level and grow old with it.

Doodling in class?

Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 24, 2008 – 1:18 pm -

Taking a laptop to class has its advantages when a lot of jargon is thrown around the room. But being the fortunate with the computer makes the old days of doodling reminiscent–When surfing the ‘net seems overdone, kick it old style the new way.

Ratemydrawings.com is a web community dedicated to the nouveau lined notebook. Create a drawing on your comp, upload it to your profile, rate and be rated. The community currently has almost 150,000 drawings.

And if you’re too scared to be rated…

Get a sheet of notebook paper.

If ever a case of the Mondays

Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 23, 2008 – 10:08 pm -

Every person has had that boss, and I mean that boss in their life.

When I worked my thankless job as a 16-year-old in the Corpus Christi mall, BossBitching.com could have offered a few laughs and some relief while I ate mall-pizza on my 15-minute lunch break.

The entire online community is anonymous, which means all the comments, stories, and polls one chooses to interact with present no evidence of identity, and no evidence that could lead to… DUN DUN DUN

more boss bitching.

“Make me a mixtape” will never die

Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 20, 2008 – 3:48 pm -

Every great relationship has got a soundtrack, and putting mp3s on a CD and handing it to someone almost feels a little 1990s-archaic.

Mixwit won’t distract you from iTunes and compressed music files.

All it asks is for you to add the music, style your “mixtape” with colors and photos, and share it with that loved one, 3-d free. And money-free, or, free.

Additionally, you could also add it to your blog… I would, but I’m not sure how much Alanis Morissette you can handle.
