For those who loves their bikes, or who would love to steal one

Written by Chelsey Delaney on June 18, 2008 – 4:21 pm -

The Bicycle Tutor is the ultimate Web site for the mechanically-challenged, eco-Austinite.

It’s like some bicyclist squire did advanced View—>Page Source on YouTube and went nuts. Videos like, “How To Adjust Sidepull Calliper Brakes” (what the hell is that), “How To Use A Presta Valve Adaptor” (and that?), and many other big-worded bike parts assemble themselves well on the site, even presenting an option to make comments.

Complaining about high gas prices? Might want to think about using this to fix yourself up for a cheaper ride; bikes shall always prosper!

Spreading like Firefox

Written by Chelsey Delaney on June 16, 2008 – 4:31 pm -

Mozilla Firefox, the pharaoh of browsers, is releasing 3.0 tomorrow and daring all who bow to its glory to download it and break a Guinness world record for the software most downloaded in 24 hours.

It’s a good ploy to get the product out, but there also isn’t much to fight about since Firefox speaks Web better than any other browser. The new version supposedly has much more customizable features, and includes one-click bookmarking.

Get your share and become part of nerd history.

I am avatar

Written by Chelsey Delaney on April 21, 2008 – 12:50 pm -

What can Fix8 do?

“Fix8 is a unique interactive communication application that allows people to customize their on-screen virtual appearance in real-time using avatar technology and creative accessories. Fix8 integrates human expression analysis and rendering capabilities, avatar/facial sculpting and animation technology, voice manipulation, and one click 3D facemaker design capabilities in one package.”

In other words… it takes your face via webcam and morphs it into a pixelated avatar. You can design yourself and then move around and make yourself look stupid.
…And it’s fun.

And right now they have a special where you can turn yourself into the 2008 presidential candidate avatars. Woohoooo, U.S. pop culture.

TwittEarth means wasting time on something you pretend to hate

Written by Chelsey Delaney on April 20, 2008 – 5:23 pm -

Ever since my class J349T Writing for Online Publication was forced into getting Twitter accounts to attempt new journalistic feets, well, long story short– We all got addicted.

Yet there is something about constant updates that seems tiring–Oh ya, because once you end up on Twitter 24/7 you aren’t doing anything.

twittearth increases the chance that Twitter will leave you a lifeless zombie. Using Flash 9, the site captures all Twitter musings from Twitter users logged in through its server.

I could sit and watch international tweets all day.

Tikatok: for kids and adults who look/act 12

Written by Chelsey Delaney on April 18, 2008 – 9:39 am -

If I ever have children, I imagine smiling at the drawings they give me, putting them on the refrigerator for a while, and later furtively tossing them in the trash. This is why I said, “if ever,” and not “when.”

Tikatok takes those refrigerator drawings and makes them not as crappy, so people like me think twice about being crappy parents some day.

Kids actually sign in and illustrate storybooks that are later printed by the Tikatok community for “sharing with friends and family.” Some of the stories are hilarious: i.e., one on the front page is titled, “My worst day ever.” Trust me kid… you got some stuff comin’.

Music video revolution

Written by Chelsey Delaney on April 16, 2008 – 9:12 am -

First there was Pitchfork.tv. Now comes PluggedIn.com.

Pick what videos you want to watch as this database unfolds into a new music empire. The site takes on a community feel by registering users for free and then providing an on-demand plethora of music videos–allowing a profile in the mix and adding your name to a fanbase.

Internet killed the movie star.

lazygirl.info makes me frown

Written by Chelsey Delaney on April 15, 2008 – 12:38 pm -

Celeb gossip occupies 0% of my online time. This is why the site lazygirl.info is the tabloid you glance at while waiting in the line at the grocery store.

The site hosts millions of pictures of celebrities, and even displays birthdays on the mainpage.

Yay for uselessness.

Guesstimation

Written by Chelsey Delaney on April 12, 2008 – 8:28 pm -

What country has the highest unemployment rate and how many people are unemployed? What percentage of the U.S. population has some form of cancer?

The statistics seem differ all over the place–Who to believe?  The numbers jump and are lost in the jumble from year to year and site to site (honestly, how many percentages can we learn about cancer and remember?).

That’s where Numbrary comes in.

Numbrary serves as the database of…data. Providing updated numbers for census reports, health reports, global warming reports– we’ll never second-guess statistical memory again.

With a new disclaimer saying that it is merely “an index of links,” the site providing access to free movies and all the TV you could want slides to the homepage SAFE.

Pitchfork.tv scoffs at MTV

Written by Chelsey Delaney on April 7, 2008 – 9:32 am -

Remember music videos? Me neither. I do remember “Next” though, unfortunately.

Witness the music revolution. Pitchfork, perhaps the most credible indie site to restring music for the Web, has created what the hopeless music lover lost in the demon-possessed MTV.

It has created Pitchfork.tv.

Says the new site in its “about” section:

Pitchfork.tv is the first-ever music video channel dedicated to the documentation of independent music.

Picture 24-hour music video streaming. Why would we leave this site?
