I am avatar
Written by Chelsey Delaney on April 21, 2008 – 12:50 pm -What can Fix8 do?
“Fix8 is a unique interactive communication application that allows people to customize their on-screen virtual appearance in real-time using avatar technology and creative accessories. Fix8 integrates human expression analysis and rendering capabilities, avatar/facial sculpting and animation technology, voice manipulation, and one click 3D facemaker design capabilities in one package.”
In other words… it takes your face via webcam and morphs it into a pixelated avatar. You can design yourself and then move around and make yourself look stupid.
…And it’s fun.
And right now they have a special where you can turn yourself into the 2008 presidential candidate avatars. Woohoooo, U.S. pop culture.

TwittEarth means wasting time on something you pretend to hate
Written by Chelsey Delaney on April 20, 2008 – 5:23 pm -Ever since my class J349T Writing for Online Publication was forced into getting Twitter accounts to attempt new journalistic feets, well, long story short– We all got addicted.
Yet there is something about constant updates that seems tiring–Oh ya, because once you end up on Twitter 24/7 you aren’t doing anything.
twittearth increases the chance that Twitter will leave you a lifeless zombie. Using Flash 9, the site captures all Twitter musings from Twitter users logged in through its server.

I could sit and watch international tweets all day.

Tikatok: for kids and adults who look/act 12
Written by Chelsey Delaney on April 18, 2008 – 9:39 am -If I ever have children, I imagine smiling at the drawings they give me, putting them on the refrigerator for a while, and later furtively tossing them in the trash. This is why I said, “if ever,” and not “when.”
Tikatok takes those refrigerator drawings and makes them not as crappy, so people like me think twice about being crappy parents some day.
Kids actually sign in and illustrate storybooks that are later printed by the Tikatok community for “sharing with friends and family.” Some of the stories are hilarious: i.e., one on the front page is titled, “My worst day ever.” Trust me kid… you got some stuff comin’.

Hum and find
Written by Chelsey Delaney on April 10, 2008 – 1:49 pm -Midomi has capitalized on a concept that can’t possibly always be useful. They have created the music search engine…by humming or singing.
Honestly, I could use this once. But then again, maaaaybe not. Not only can you find music through that, but people record themselves singing songs. For example, there are 628 fan recordings of The Beatles.
Never in my life would I venture to that torture over the real thing.

Life hints by Jott
Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 28, 2008 – 9:42 am -Jott is the ultimate post-it note of life.
One can:
- Send emails to self.
- Send emails and texts to contacts.
- Get text and email reminders to self.
- Email and text contacts.
- Add items to a to-do list.
Basically it won’t let you forget anything, or anyone else for that matter. It’s almost like a 24-hour wake-up call from the phone.
Technology just won’t let you have excuses anymore…

Books on tape…then CD…then online? It was coming.
Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 25, 2008 – 6:28 pm -Ever wonder what the droids who circulate campus with built in brain-iPods (you) will look like when they grow up? The same, except no drowned-out indie music–just books-on-pod. We will be the cutest senior citizen generation to date.
Podiobooks is a web community where podcast authors submit “chapters” to podcast-novels, completing full audio books. The novels’ content stretch across 18 different genres (and yes, there is an erotica section, for the curiously perverse).
Take your relationship with your iPod to the next level and grow old with it.

Doodling in class?
Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 24, 2008 – 1:18 pm -Taking a laptop to class has its advantages when a lot of jargon is thrown around the room. But being the fortunate with the computer makes the old days of doodling reminiscent–When surfing the ‘net seems overdone, kick it old style the new way.

If ever a case of the Mondays
Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 23, 2008 – 10:08 pm -Every person has had that boss, and I mean that boss in their life.
When I worked my thankless job as a 16-year-old in the Corpus Christi mall, BossBitching.com could have offered a few laughs and some relief while I ate mall-pizza on my 15-minute lunch break.
The entire online community is anonymous, which means all the comments, stories, and polls one chooses to interact with present no evidence of identity, and no evidence that could lead to… DUN DUN DUN
more boss bitching.

“Make me a mixtape” will never die
Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 20, 2008 – 3:48 pm -Every great relationship has got a soundtrack, and putting mp3s on a CD and handing it to someone almost feels a little 1990s-archaic.
Mixwit won’t distract you from iTunes and compressed music files.
All it asks is for you to add the music, style your “mixtape” with colors and photos, and share it with that loved one, 3-d free. And money-free, or, free.
Additionally, you could also add it to your blog… I would, but I’m not sure how much Alanis Morissette you can handle.

Mosio: the mobilepedia
Written by Chelsey Delaney on March 19, 2008 – 10:00 am -Life has questions. What should I eat? Who was that guy who was in that one movie? Will I be wearing a tank top by 3 p.m.?
Answer:
Mosio is an online social network that registers your digits. Then when life’s little queries appear on the existential plate, a simple text to ask@mosio.com will put your question on the dashboard of the online social network, where other Mosio users will aid your damsel of a curiosity. Answers are texted back–and cynical answers are only allowed for cynical questions (states the Mosio policy).
One person asked if their flight would even be on time.
It was.
