My first legit magazine work came out this week in Austin Monthly. By legit I mean available for purchase in stores, not in a UT rag or some dude’s diary.

It was a character portrait of a Freeganist, more or less a pretty-p.c. word for dumpster diver. I got really lucky on this shoot, both the subject and art-director were very cool and easy to work with.

Besides those warm feelings, I have been learning a lot about the real world of photography lately. Mainly that you have to follow certain image guidelines to get paid. Which is weird when you usually turn in photos of blurry vaginas just to break your school’s set guidelines.

So  this dreamboat and I are doing the December Austin Monthly fashion shoot tomorrow and it’s going to look something like this…

If Pandora plays Jack Johnson one more time, I’m going to vote for Sarah Palin.

That said, I photographed the lovely singer/songwriter Sarah Emley today for her album art. Luckily, my ovaries were working overtime, so I can provide you with the girliest, glowiest photos since my abortion. Just kidding. Enjoy! More to come!

Last week, this dude I picked up and I went to Marfa, Texas, which is exactly in the middle of nowhere West Texas. Marfa is reknown for its art transformation in the 80s thanks to this other dude Donald Judd(who just so happens to be a bit of a hottie).

The town is bare bones except for about 10 art galleries and the fabulous Chinati Foundation (Judd’s baby), which houses 12 artists’ installations in former military-base bunkers. I highly recommend going, if only for the beautiful West Texas scenery.

Hey, hey, hey!  Sorry for the post delay - but I’m currently in a heated contract standoff with the Daily Texan. Or I was out of town for the weekend in the middle of West Texas.

Either way - here’s a tid bit to hold you over. It’s a photo from this new booming area of residence in Austin called the Mueller Development. It’s really creepy at night because they leave some lights on in the empty houses - which all are basically the same looking. In other words - I’m a very post-modern, anti-capitalism, social commentary, American Beauty photographer today. I’ll post the rest very soon…

Warning: this is a sleepsy-ispy post after a long weekend of free drinks, dry air, and oodles of caboodles of misogyny.

Vegas was fab. Many pics of me in high heels and miniskirts coming soon. In the meantime, enjoy the first half of my class assignment. For this project, I had to put on my “photojournalism hat” and photograph people in the style of the great August Sander. Sander traveled around Germany in the pre WWII era attempting to make a portrait of the German people. I love his work, so hopefully I did his style justice with some portraits I did of the Vegas people.
