Chiles investigation suspended
The investigation into the “Assault With Injury” case in which Texas backup quarterback John Chiles was confirmed as a suspect has been “suspended,” the Austin Police Department said. The detective working the case said, “the defendant doesn’t want to cooperate” and will not press charges against Chiles. The case was upgraded from “Assault By Contact” earlier in the month. The detective declined to offer specific details as to the reason behind the change but did acknowledge that in most cases, an upgrade is a result of the investigation clarifying the initial details.APD confirmed on April 9 that Chiles was a suspect in the case, which occurred at 2:45 a.m. on April 4 on “W Martin Luther King Blvd./Guadalupe” according to the incident report.

Sweed drafted in second round
Texas lost a couple of players early to the 2008 NFL Draft, and neither of them were selected on the first day. No Longhorns were selected in the first round, and Limas Sweed —drafted in the second round, 53rd overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers — was the only Texas product to get selected.
Running back Jamaal Charles and tight end Jermichael Finley are still waiting to be drafted. Despite the fact that they elected to leave college and enter the NFL early, I don’t think anyone is too surprised the first two rounds passed without their names being called. That said, ESPN projected Finley as a late-second, early-third round pick. Charles was expected to go in the second round, according the ESPN.

D.J. to go Pro
D.J. Augustin has made his last acrobatic layup as a Longhorn.
The sophomore announced his decision to enter the NBA draft moments ago through a press release.
“I have had a great experience here at The University of Texas,” Augustin said in the statement. “All I can say is ‘thank you’ to my teammates, coaching staff and fans that have supported us during my two years at Texas. I have matured a lot as a person, both on and off the court. I have dreamed of playing in the NBA since I was a little boy, and I am ready to start living this dream.”
He has not yet hired an agent, but the release didn’t make it appear that he had any intentions of just testing the waters and coming back.
“We are so thankful for the opportunity to have been around an individual like D.J. for the last two years,” head coach Rick Barnes said. “As good as he is on the basketball court, D.J. is an even better person off the court.”
Yesterday, came the suprising news that A.J. Abrams might not be back. Now, it appears, Augustin definitely won’t be.

Augustin Still Undecided
With the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the MBA draft rapidly approaching, D.J. Augustin has yet to make a decision.
Moments after attending the annual men’s athletics awards banquet, where he received a pair of honors, the sophomore said he’s still talking with his family and weighing his options.
“It’s going to be my decision,” he said.
Augustin denied the rumor that he was leaning toward declaring for the draft but retaining eligibility by not hiring an agent. He wasn’t surprised by the report though.
“I’ve been hearing all kinds of stories,” he said.
He did point out that leaving for the NBA would not mean abandoning academics. Augustin cited the example of another of the banquet’s award winners, Terrence Rencher. Rencher played in the NBA and overseas before coming back to the University of Texas to finish his degree.
Rencher won the Athletics Council Academic Achievement Award on Monday while Augustin got both a Provost Award for recording a 4.0 GPA semester and an Academic Excellence and Spirit Award.
Throughout the last several weeks he’s talked with former teammate Kevin Durant and other NBA players, and they let him know that entering the professional ranks would mean learning to accept the game as a business. His advisors knew better than to push him toward making any specific decisions though, he said.
And he still doesn’t know what he’ll decide or when he’ll make the decision.
“There are many options for me,” he said.
