Round two with St. John’s
Rice beat St. John’s 11-2 Saturday night in the winner’s bracket of the Houston regional.
The Red Storm loss means Texas and St. John’s will face off tomorrow at 2 p.m. for the right to play the Owls for the regional title.
The Longhorns are expected to start left-hander Austin Wood (6-3, 4.58 ERA). St. John’s coach Ed Blankmeyer said he’s considering right-hander Jared Yecker (4-2, 3.93 ERA) and lefty Matt Tosoni (6-1, 1.72 ERA) for the start.

Texas lives to play Sunday
The Longhorns wrapped up a 13-3 win over Sam Houston State Saturday.
The Bearkats scored one in the seventh after Texas reliever Kyle Walker walked the bases loaded to start the inning, and they added one more in the bottom of the ninth.
Texas will now face the loser of tonight’s game between Rice and St. John’s tomorrow at 2 p.m.

Ruffin out, Walker in
Texas brings left-hander Kyle Walker out of the bullpen to replace starter Chance Ruffin.
Ruffin pitched six innings and allowed one run on seven hits. The freshman recorded ten strikeouts; 69 of his 94 pitches were for strikes.
